A patent licensing agreement is a contract where the patent owner gives another entity permission to use or distribute the invention in return for compensation. National patent laws on licensing of patents vary between countries and patented inventions are licensed on a territorial basis.


Patents provide the right to control the use of an invention in all the manners in which it can be exploited. Illegal copy of patented inventions or infringement of patents may be settled with litigation.
