Filing Requirements

Power of Attorney
Must be legalised and filed within 2 months of the filing date.

Specification, claims, drawings and abstract
The specification, claims, drawings and abstract are required upon filing. An Arabic translation of the documents must be filed within 2 months of the filing date.

Deed of Assignment
Must be legalised and filed within 2 months of the filing date.

Certificate of Incorporation
(if the applicant is a company) Together with an Arabic translation, must be legalised and filed within 2 months of the filing date.

Priority Document (if applicable)
(if applicable) Together with a verified Arabic translation, must be filed within 2 months of the filing date.

Further Information

Deadlines
30 months from earliest priority date for entering national phase under PCT.

Examination
Formal examination is conducted.

Duration
The patent has a duration of 15 years from date of filing or the PCT International filing date, with a possible extension of 5 years. (Patents relating to foodstuffs, medicine and pharmaceutical preparations have a duration of 10 years).

Maintenance fees / Renewal fees
Annual maintenance fees are payable from the second anniversary of the filing date or from the PCT International filing date after grant.  There is a 6-month grace period to pay the maintenance fees.
